I remember that finding our first home was a challenging journey, but we believed that God guided us through the process. With a tight budget, we focused on resale flats in non-mature estates in the West. Eventually, we found a relatively new flat, just three years old, in Bukit Gombak.
The owner, who was going through a divorce, needed to sell quickly, and we managed to negotiate a good deal. Although the flat had wall paint we didn’t particularly like and was home to several cats, we were drawn to the location. It was close to an MRT station and surrounded by amenities, which made it an attractive option.
Given that both of us were just starting our careers, we borrowed the downpayment from his parents. With our modest budget, we didn’t undertake any major renovations. Instead, we painted the walls ourselves, chose our furniture, mattress, appliances, and other accessories. The process was both tiring and exciting.
Despite it not being our dream home, we were deeply grateful to have a place of our own.
