Even before the journey begins, she faces intense public scrutiny after colliding with a cargo ship during a trial run. Once at sea, she endures massive storms, deep isolation, and dangerous equipment failures—including a terrifying knockdown that leaves her briefly unconscious.

The film highlights the important role of her family and her coach, Ben Bryant, who helps guide her through both psychological and physical challenges from afar.
The Outcome
Despite critics questioning her maturity and ability, Jessica completes her 210-day journey and returns to Australia to a hero’s welcome.
What I Learned — and How It Reflects My Entrepreneur Journey
1. The dream that keeps you going
Like Jessica Watson, I also started with a dream.
My dream is simple: to help more people travel comfortably without needing to buy expensive winter clothing. Through my business, WinterBuddy, families can rent winter gear instead.
Some tech startup founders advised me to use a peer-to-peer (P2P) model. But deep in my heart, I felt that I wanted to build this business differently. I want to do it with heart, not just for profit. That’s why I chose the more traditional and conventional way of building the business.
2. The storms at the beginning
The first three months were extremely quiet.
There were no sales. I felt lost and questioned whether this idea would work at all. There were moments when I felt like giving up.
During those times, I relied completely on God. I let Him be the captain of the boat. Slowly, He stirred the boat through unexpected turns and twists.
Now the journey has reached a moment of stillness again as the winter season ends and the low season begins.
3. The importance of support
Just like Jessica had her family and mentor supporting her, I also have mine.
My husband has always been there—guiding me, helping me see what I cannot see, and reminding me when I am not doing the right thing. His support gives me strength during uncertain times.
Entrepreneurship may look like a solo journey from the outside, but in reality, it is never truly done alone.
4. The journey is still ongoing
Unlike Jessica Watson’s story, my journey is still unfolding.
I don’t yet know what the final outcome will be.
But this movie reminded me of an important truth: the entrepreneurial journey is rarely smooth sailing. There will always be storms, unexpected detours, and long periods of uncertainty.
What matters most is to trust the process, stay agile, adapt when necessary, and persevere through the waves.
Because sometimes, the very storms we fear are the ones that eventually lead us to the shore.
