We took a late-morning flight and arrived at Orly Airport around noon, where we were picked up by a private transfer and headed to Plaisir, about an hour’s drive from Paris, where our relatives were staying.
After settling in, we prepared for our next journey—an overnight trip to Lourdes. Paris welcomed us with gloomy skies and steady rain. That evening, we attended Sunday Mass at the cathedral near Gare d’Austerlitz, the same area where we would later depart for Lourdes by overnight train.
After Mass, we walked for about 30 minutes to Gare d’Austerlitz under a light drizzle and stopped by McDonald’s to buy dinner to bring onto the train.
We spent the night in a six-bed sleeper coach, sharing one bed with a stranger, as there were five of us in the compartment. It was a unique and memorable experience—especially for our kids, for whom sleeping on a train became a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
