We began our journey with a red-eye flight from Singapore to Rome, transiting in Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. We almost missed our check-in—thank God the Turkish Airlines ground crew called us and were willing to wait. It felt like a small reminder that God was already taking care of us from the very beginning.
The flight was smooth, and after about 10 hours, we landed in Istanbul around 6 a.m. We then departed again at 8 a.m. for Rome, arriving at around 10 a.m. local time. After clearing immigration, a private transfer picked us up and brought us straight to our Airbnb in Rome.
We booked an apartment near Roma Termini, which turned out to be a perfect choice. It was very convenient for traveling by train and close to the car rental shop we would use on our fourth day.
After settling in, we met Fr. Aldo, an Indonesian priest who is currently studying in Rome. He kindly accompanied us to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, and the nearby Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme. Along the way, he shared meaningful insights about the Holy Door and Catholic traditions in Rome.

We ended the day with dinner together, grateful for the fellowship and the grace of the day.
It was a truly fruitful start to our pilgrimage, and we rested well that night in our comfortable apartment, ready for the days ahead.
