Christmas All Year Round at Santa's house, Rovaniemi (November 2012)

It was our last stop for our trip to North. We spent 3 nights at Rovaniemi, visiting Santa's village and Santa's Park. We took a bus from Kakslauttanen and arrived there in the evening. Santa's Village was pretty new and the cottage that we stayed was huge. There was kitchen, sauna room. It was suitable for family with children. We visited Santa's Post office where they received many letters over the world and they would try to reply them back. Around two km, there was Santa's Park which like indoor amusement park catering for family with kids. We were still young at heart therefore we visited there, met Santa, did ginger cookies with the Elves and enjoyed Elves performances. We also received certificate that we had crossed Arctic Circle. At first, we wanted to have husky safari, but since there was no snow the past few days, the operator cancelled it. But for the consolation, we...

Sleep Under the Stars at Ivalo (November 2012)

This was another highlight of our trip. We flew from Helsinki to Ivalo which was in the North and we stayed at Glass Igloo, Kakslauttanen. When we were about to land and after our plane landed safely, again we were amazed with black and white view.   We landed in snow and walked in snow towards the airport. The airport was small and built from the wood. After we arrived at the resort, it was almost dark and our room was walking distance from main building. Therefore no other ways then pulling our luggage and walk in the snow. We were relieved when we arrived at our igloo and it was unexpectedly warm inside. There was no shower room inside, only toilet and sink to wash up. We literally slept under the stars. Since there was located nowhere, we had dinner in the restaurant there before taking local tour for night reindeer safari. It was really dark in the deep forest and we had campfire there to rest for awhile. But it's nice exper...
